It may be the first time you have needed a good CV and writing one from scratch can be a daunting prospect. However there are many CV templates that can be used to get you started particularly if you are writing a graduate CV from scratch.

You must always remember that when you start looking for work there will be thousands of other graduates looking also. You have to make sure that the employer knows instantly that you are the ‘Special One’. The main aim is to ensure that he or she reads your CV and comes away thinking just that. There is very little time to make a good impression and most graduate CVs tend to look alike. You need to make sure you stand out from the crowd and show the employer that this job is ideally suited to you.

You need to complete certain sections. Profile, skills, achievements, work experience, education and interests. As you are fresh out of university you may be thinking that your qualification should sit at the top. However writing that you achieved a BA in International Business at Liverpool University from 2006-2009 may be correct but it will do little to differentiate you from other graduates.

You would create a better impression by listing achievements from your time at University. These should be accomplishments that can be related into a work environment. List techniques and skills you have used and back it up with examples. You can use achievements from other areas. Look at your work experience, voluntary work, hobbies and education. If it can demonstrate a skill that can be used in the workplace and more importantly for the role you are applying for then detail it. At Innovate CV we have a range of online resume examples and CV examples to help you create a good CV
